By: Customer’s Poet

Talk about Customer Service.

According to the Huffington Post, the crew of the Turkish Airline flight from Guinea’s capital of Conakry to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso delivered a passenger’s baby mid-flight. Yes. I said they delivered a baby at 42,000 Feet altitude. I’m sure they did not learn this in med school.

The new mom was 28 weeks pregnant at the time of birth ad cleared to fly with a note. Yet, her daughter could not wait any longer.

Fortunately, the newborn and mommy were taken to a hospital in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso’s capital. They have been report as doing well.

Grustomer Service Award: Top 7 Nicest Artist to Their Fans

By: Customer’s Poet

It’s the 59th Annual Grammy’s Award Show.

In celebration of the musical artist who make a difference in their fan’s lives, Secret Eyes has put together a countdown of the top artists who care for their fans aka customers. Here are our picks for the Grustomer (Customer Service Grammy) Service Award.

Chance The Rapper

While he may be the new kid on the block to some of us, Chance The Rapper has a huge heart. Especially when it comes to his hometown of Chicago. According to MTV.com, Chance The Rapper lead thousands (yes thousands) in a parade to the Chicago voting polls last November after hosting a concert in the city’s majestic Grant Park. I’m not mad at you Chance but we all know how that turned out.

2 Chainz

He may have crossed over into the fashion realm but rapper 2 Chainz has to be one of the nicest rappers in the game. Through his TRU Foundation, the Atlanta rapper gave a veteran and single mother the surprise of her life. After showing up to her apartment, 2 Chainz provided the woman and her family with furniture in addition to offering to pay their rent for a year. Wow! Now that’s what I call a blessing right when you need it.

Harry Styles

Since his days as a member of One Direction, Harry Styles has been a fan favorite and there’s a valid reason why. He’s a genuine sweetheart and people know it. According to many fans, Harry takes time to impact their lives. By doing what you ask? He treats them like real people. He takes photographs with them, he consistently talks to them via social media, and he even went out his way to help a fan who suffered from a panic attack during a One Direction booking signing. I know many companies who could use his expertise on the art of empathy.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is known as many things (talented, beautiful, humble) but her best attribute is her sincere appreciation for her fans. Case and point: The infamous Kanye West interruption during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. According to MTV reps, if Taylor Swift had not taken the time to get to know her fans the day prior, they would not have supported her during her moment of public pain. Considering Swifts humble heart, she continues to show her fans just how much she loves them. According to USA Today, Swift sent a fan a check for $1,989 for their student loans. Taylor, if you’re reading, I could use help with Sallie Mae too! Just thought I’ll put it out there.

Ed Sheeran

A musical hit making genius himself, Ed Sheeran has always been a man who cares for his fans in more ways than one. Here is how. According to Buzzfeed.com, Ed Sheeran visited a fan in the hospital after she could not attend his concert due to illness and he surprised a 13-year-old fan working to raise money in a Canadian mall holding charity concert. Their duet was priceless. If you have not seen it, check it out.

Kevin “Chocolate Droppa” Hart

While he’s not your typical musical artist, the Chocolate Droppa aka Kevin Hart does have a single out and knows the importance of customer service. So much so that Forbes Magazine named him The World’s Highest Paid Comedian. A title which he does not take lightly. To earn it and the hearts of fans globally, Mr. Hart put in the work. He actively engages with his fans via social media and through making surprise pop ups. He motivates millions through his key note speeches. He has consistently given back to his hometown of Philadelphia schools. He donated to survivors of Hurricane Sandy and many more causes. But that’s not all. Instead of just signing off on a check, Kevin Hart shows up in live and in the flesh. Now that’s what I talking about. Don’t just talk about it be about it.

Lady Gaga

One of my personal favs and true to her character, Lady Gaga is one of the most unique, one-in-a-million artist alive. Yet, she has never allowed all her fame to get to her head. The self-proclaimed “Mother Monster” sends love to her fans in more ways than one. Here is how she puts her fans first. According to Mic.com, the musical trend setter made a point to fight for the rights of the LGBT community. She made a partnership with UNICEF. She donated $1million to Hurricane Sandy relief. She includes her fans in many of her projects and as a result has a bond with them like no other celebrity. When people know that you’re genuine, it’s not hard for them to love you.

adele-f93dcb90-4975-4742-897d-245126b1d543

Adele

Yet, after watching tonight’s Grammy Awards, we had to put Adele on the list as an Honorable Mention. True to her artist soul while doing her tribute to George Michael, instead of singing through an off key note, Adele stopped in the middle of the performance. She apologized for her mishap and started “I can’t mess this up for him”, then restarted the song. Giving George Michael the proper tribute he deserved. We honor you for this. Kudos!

The Top Seven Customer Service Stories of 2016 Countdown

Mark E. Ross and Sgt. David Robison

By: Customer’s Poet

The end of the year is near and these heart-felt stories of customer service excellence were a gift of gratitude shared by many. Every person listed share the 7 Virtues of Customer Service Difference Makers: Chastity, Temperance, Charity, Diligence, Patience, Kindness, and Humility. Here is our lucky seven countdown to some of the most heart-warming, viral customer service stories of the year and the individuals behind them.

7) Former Target Cashier Ishmael Gilbert

Tuesday, January 12th was like any other day for customer Sarah Bigler as she and her two young children went to the Target in Glendale, IN to grabbed a few things. Not realizing she went behind an elderly customer paying in all coins, Bigler became frustrated but quickly realized there was a lesson to be learned. She took to Facebook to post her experience.

The photo and story drew so much attention that Gilbert was offered a job at a local dialysis center. He currently works at “Fresenius Medical Care as a patient care technician and is working toward becoming a certified hemodialysis technician. The center is also paying for his education as he studies to become a registered nurse.” A beautiful ending to a beautiful story.

6) Safaricom attendant Pauline Shalimo

Pictures say a thousand words.

In this photo Shalimo did more than help a customer in need, she touched the hearts of customers alike. On Tuesday, October 25, Shalimo made it her business to provide disabled customer William Kisumo with the up-most customer service at the Safaricom Nakuru, Kenya shop, by kneeling to service him. Unknown to her, a passerby took a photo and posted it to social media. The photo, along with #Safaricomlady, earned her so much praise that the National Council for Persons with Disability Chairman David ole Sangok decided to pay her a visit. This act of customer service also led to her meeting with the company’s CEO Bob Collymore. Keep it up Pauline!

5) Old Navy employee Lora Jackson

Danyale Peterson arrived at the Warner Robbins, GA Old Navy, with her sleeping infant son Cole, but, his sleeping did not last long. As young Cole became hungry, his cry grew louder and Peterson began to make her way to the front of the store to leave. Little did she know, help was on the way. Lora Jackson, Old Navy employee, stopped the mom and exchanged her typical 30-minute lunch break to care for baby Cole as Peterson finished her shopping. She feed him, comforted him, and even gave him kisses.

But that was not all. Jackson walked with Baby Cole and Peterson to their car. She stayed until Cole was settled and Peterson finished loading the car. Talk about customer service.

4) John Goodlett of Enterprise Car Rental

Considering John Goodlett was a new hire to Enterprise at the time this occurred, his actions definitely earned him a rightful placed with the company.

After picking up customer Cody Vincent and her 11-month-old twin boys, Levy and Holt, from their home in Tulsa, OK; Goodlett continued to assist the mom. He helped the her and her sons get into the Enterprise Car Rental office. Even holding one son as he worked to process her car rental because she only had a stroller for one child. Stunned by Goodlett’s kind actions, Vincent took to social media to share her experience.

“While he helped me with my rental due to a hit and run accident, he held one of my twin sons as I don’t have a double stroller,” she wrote in the caption. “One of the most compassionate and caring people I’ve ever met. We need more people like John who go that extra step. Be a John. #BeAJohn”. A positive customer service experience that was shared over 24,600 leading to #BeAJohn setting social media by storm.

3) Capital One Customer Service Rep Tonya

What girl could not use a friend like this?

On Wednesday, September 14, Christina Grady’s credit card was shut off for suspicious activity when Capital One noticed furniture being sent to an address that was different from the mailing address on file. Unknowing to the company, Grady’s personal life was wrecked after her fiancé decided to break up with her, prompting her to move out.

After pouring her heart out and explaining her situation to a customer service Tonya, the rep’s words were “Girl, I am giving you 4,500 free miles. Go on vacation. Take so many pictures of yourself all happy and post them all over that Instagram.”

Yet, that was not all. Tonya went a step farther. She decided to send flowers to Grady’s previous home, prompting her ex-fiancé to respond with “Someone sent you flowers to my house.’ ‘Who would be so bold?”. After receiving the flowers, Grady read the card. They were sent from CSR Tonya of Capital One.

2) Pierce Dunn, Evan Freeman, and other employees of Dutch Brothers Coffee Shop

Prayer changes things. For one customer of Dutch Bros in Vancouver, WA, Alisha Wisbey, it’s exactly what she got.

On Friday, March 18th, Barbara Danner got into the drive thru line to grab a cup of morning joe and never thought she would witness this. Employees of Dutch Bros coming together to pray for a distraught customer. Overwhelmed by the emotional, touching moment, Danner snapped a photo and shared it on Facebook stating this:

“Turns out the young lady in line ahead of us lost her 37-year-old husband last night,” Danner said. “When the DB guys & gals noticed she was falling apart, they stopped everything and prayed with her for several minutes, invited her to come back for prayer and support, as well as anything else that she might need.”

This touching story has been viewed over 38 million times via Fox 12 News.

1) Police Sergeant David Robinson of the Ohio State Highway Patrol

Considering all of the allegations of police brutality against African Americans, this story made #1 on our list.

At 3 am, on Sunday, September 25th, Mark E. Ross received a devastating call that his fifteen-year-old sister had been killed in a car accident. Considering he had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, Ross convinced a friend of his to drive there. However, his friend had a suspended license and they took the risk of speeding to get him back to his family in Detroit.

While in route the men were pulled over in Ohio by Sgt. David Robison. Ross says he experienced an emotional break down and explained to the officer, that his sister had died and he needed to get to his mother. Then the unthinkable happened. Sgt. David Robison decided to drive Ross another 100 miles to Detroit to be with his family because the vehicle had been towed.

Sgt. David Robison actions not only restored Ross’ faith in cops but an entire community belief in cops.

How Customer Service Made Kevin Hart Millions

how-customer-service-made-kevin-hart-millions

By: Customer’s Poet

If you’re not one of the 30+ million people following Kevin Hart’s Twitter page then you’re missing out.

For Mr. Hart being named The World’s Highest Paid Comedian by Forbes Magazine did not come easy. Although some critics may disagree. Yet, if you’ve followed his career from his humble beginnings as a funny shoe salesman to doing Hollywood Blockbusters, you’d know the term easy does not apply to his success.

Considering his strict work ethic and A-List celebrity status, there’s one thing Mr. Hart does not take lightly. And that’s customer service. Here is how it made him millions.

Actively engages with his fans (customers)

Contrary to automated systems of other celebrities and big businesses, Kevin Hart is actually alive and active on his social media pages. If you follow him, you’ll see he consistently posts comments, videos, tweets, does live streams, you name it. He even personally responds to some of his fans.

Delivers quality products

While not all of Hart’s endeavors have been successes, the one constant success has been his comedic skill. Considering this, Hartbeat Productions has maintained delivering quality, laugh-so-hard-your-face-hurts entertainment that has kept Hart’s brand relevant, built his constantly growing fan list, and created pop culture phrases that we’ve all loved to use like “they gone learn today” and soon to be “oh…really?”.

Goes above and beyond

Aside from being Mr. Funnyman, Kevin Hart has managed to motivate millions through key note speeches, his life story, losing his mother, and his humble honesty. He has consistently given back to his hometown of Philadelphia schools. He donated to survivors of Hurricane Sandy and many more causes. But not only does he sign off on a check, he shows up in person. He is even been known to surprise his fans with free movie tickets to some of his shows on opening weekend.

As for anyone claiming the Comedy King’s path to World Domination was easy, here’s what he himself has to say, “Everybody wants to be famous but nobody wants to do the work”.

As always be smart, savvy, and equip.

Good Cops Do Exist

goodcop

By: Customer’s Poet

Finally a good cop steps up.

After witnessing an entertaining yet historical presidential debate the night before, this story of goodwill gives me hope in mankind.

As most Americans were sleeping peaceful, Mark E. Ross received a devastating call that shuck him to his core. “ At 3am I got a phone call stating that my sister had been killed in a car accident due to some young dumb punk! I haven’t slept and instantly got on the road.”

Considering he had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, Ross convinced a friend of his to drive there. However, his friend had a suspended license and they took the risk of speeding to get him back to his family in Detroit.

While in route the men were pulled over in Ohio and things weren’t looking too good. “We got pulled over in Ohio…I knew I was going to jail.” Yet, unknowing to Ross, being pulled over was actually a blessing in disguise.

Ross says he experienced an emotional break down and explained to the officer, Sgt. David Robison, that his sister had died. He explained that he needed to get to his mother. “I broke down crying and he saw the sincerity in my cry, he reaches over and began praying over me and my family.”

But that wasn’t all.

Sgt. David Robison did the unthinkable and decided to drive Ross another 100 miles to Detroit to be with his family because the vehicle had been towed. A pure act of kindness which changed the way Ross viewed police.“Everybody knows how much I dislike cops, but I am truly grateful for this guy. He gave me hope,”.

In honor of Sgt. David Robison’s stellar customer service and in efforts of aiding Mark Ross’ grieving family, Secret Eyes created Limited Edition Good Cops Do Exist shirts as our way of giving back. For every shirt purchased a fifty percent of all proceeds will go towards the burial of Eliza Fletcher.

By: Customer’s Poet

Why would have thought being nice could go this far?

Sunday afternoon, September 19th was anything but sleepy after first responders made it to the scene of New York’s Chelsea neighborhood blast unaware that someone had a gift in store for them.

According to Starbucks, Germaine Zolkos, Starbucks Store Manager of 23rd Street and 5th Avenue, decided to take bags full of coffee, pastries, and drinks to the police and firefighters at the scene. Unknowing to him, Knight News was on the scene and recorded the entire act which went viral having over 16 million views.

Watch Video Here

Still believing he did nothing special, Zolkos states this:

“What does it say about our society that being nice is a big deal?” “It was the least I could do…I wish I could have done more.”

Capital One Customer Service Rep Sends Flowers to Customer, She’s Not the Only One

By: Customer’s Poet

Like the rest of the world, Secret Eyes took a loving to Christina Grady’s story of customer service gratitude. Yet, after considering some facts about Capital One, did customer service rep Tonya truly go above and beyond the call of duty or was she just doing her job?

In the voice of my fellow friend…”They been doing that…y’all late” and indeed we were.

Considering Capital One serves approximately 45 million accounts, taking on the philosophy of being in the “people business” has allowed the company to take its customer service to the next level. After doing farther research, we found more customers who had similar experiences as Grady’s.

According to the Good News Network, Ellen and Bob Wallace, married and proud owners of Arizona Sun natural skincare company, received unfortunate news of Ellen’s uterine cancer spreading. After paying bills for the company, Bob received a call from Capital One’s fraud department about suspicious account activity. Subsequently, he returned the call and stated the charges were correct. Upon sensing his tone of voice, CSR Chine stated he sounded sad and that’s when he told her about my wife’s cancer. After expressing her thoughts, prayers, and experiences with cancer as well; Chine assured Bob his accounts would be handled.  Within a week, he received flowers to his home including a card from Chine.

In the words of American author, social entrepreneur, and US Army officer Wes Moore “We are products of our expectations”. Sadly in today’s society, customers have become immune to poor customer service practices. So much so, that when occurrences like these happen, they are less inclined to share the great news. According to Help Scout, bad news reaches more than twice as many ears as praise for a good customer service experience.

While we are not sure of the many customers Capital One has done this for, in both examples, it was clear that the customers took it upon themselves to go out of their way to show gratitude.

As for their parts in the story, Tonya and Chine were both great reps who knew how to listen to their customers and properly address their needs.

Its simple actions like these that equates to better customer service for all. When it comes to customer service, it’s a win-win game. If we all took the time to praise as much as we complain, who knows what will happen. Celebrate a customer service rep who has made a difference in your life. Click here to get your #SeeaTonyaBeaTonya limited edition shirts today.

As always be smart, be savvy, and equip.

Here are additional customers who have shared their Capital One flower experiences:
